I could almost be tempted to give up moth trapping, so abundant are the riches which are kindly being sent to me at the moment by family and friends. Here is the latest: another Convolvulus Hawkmoth, this one only a couple of miles from my home.
It was found by the enterprising children of the Wigley family in the playground at Tackley, which now joins its neighbouring village, Kirtlington of Death's Head Hawmoth fame, on my roll of honour. Meanwhile two more Convolvulus Hawks have been found in Oxfordshire in the last week, one in a washing bag (following the earlier one on a pair of jeans on a washing line) and the other by none other than the great illustrator of the Moth Bible, Richard Lewington.
Annus mothus mirabilis indeed!
