Thanks to the Hawks

Barring an August or September visit from a nectaring Hummingbird-hawk moth, I think that the 2019 season for these mighty moths has drawn to a close. Their size and splendour makes them among my favourite species. Here are some of the last to arrive: a Privet on its way to freedom, above, a rakish Pine in the two pictures below, a worn but game Poplar relaxing in an eggbox and an Elephant Hawk, the favoured moth of many visitors who coincide with a trapping night, at the bottom with a little Pug moth.

Thank you all, and to the Eyed, Lime and Small Elephants who have also graced the trap since early May.
