The fridge is a no-go zone for moths in our house but your fruit idea is excellent and I will give it a go.

I'm afraid my iPad Mini pics are a bit second-rate but passable while I debate whether or not to get a camera or an iPhone (Penny has one of the latter and it takes very good pics, but I don't want to have the distraction of the internet when I'm out and about. I know you can ignore it and doubtless switch it off, but that's hard to do psychologically!)

I try to hold it as still as poss and touch the screen to get the focus as close as poss. It's only a Mini, which makes it less cumbersome. T'will serve, as someone says in Shakespear, but I think I will def upgrade eventually.

All warm wishes as ever

Martin
eMartin Wainwrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07276936577536929319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1939528489287886153.post-45781169082123345612017-08-18T01:35:57.185+01:002017-08-18T01:35:57.185+01:00Edit 2: How do you take such good photos with an i...Edit 2: How do you take such good photos with an iPad? My phone even got the giant Cotinis mutabilis scarab on my profile photo quite blurry!AlexWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00615656984206834928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1939528489287886153.post-62571005289726175602017-08-15T22:47:26.234+01:002017-08-15T22:47:26.234+01:00Edit: Make sure that if you try the chill method t...Edit: Make sure that if you try the chill method that they don't go in the freezer, as that would likely be dangerous. Also, remember that I am not a professional.AlexWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00615656984206834928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1939528489287886153.post-86836753260043828642017-08-15T22:37:08.869+01:002017-08-15T22:37:08.869+01:00Perhaps they need no brightly-colored bottoms beca...Perhaps they need no brightly-colored bottoms because their escape tactics are slightly different from certain other insects which do have colorful bottoms?

Tip: You can refrigerate insects for a short period to make their movements slower and make identification/photos easier, and I have tried it. I'm not 100% clear on how stressful this is with them, but another good method that is obviously not stressful is feeding the insect. It is quite amazing how some (not all) insects, including many moths, will forget all their fears once dunked onto a lump of fruit.AlexWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00615656984206834928noreply@blogger.com
